STANDING ROCK, Ala. — A fish fry and bake sale will be taking place at the Standing Rock Community Center from noon till 3 p.m. EDT this coming Saturday, October 19th.
The new center is located next to the Methodist Church not far from the crossroads of County Roads 278 and 281.
Plates are $15 each and include fried catfish filets, French fries, hush puppies, cole slaw, lemons, pickles and onions. Plates will be available for dine in or carry out, rain or shine.
For tickets, call (706) 333-8559 or (334) 234-1095. Proceeds will benefit the ongoing building project for a new community center.
Much progress has been made on the new building. It’s dried in, the floor is in, as are the bathrooms.
The next phase is to install the heating and air conditioning system and the ceiling.
Baked goods will be on sale Saturday, and there will be a raffle for a 55-inch flatscreen TV and a smoker grill.
Saturday should be a good day to go and spend some time in Standing Rock.
According to local legends, the rock that gave the town its name has been standing there since the Creek Indians were there in the early 1800s.
They told early settlers that bad luck would come to anyone who disturbed it. The spire-shaped boulder has been there ever since.
