Two upcoming events were announced at the LaFayette Council meeting on Monday night, a health fair and a Veterans Day Parade. A proclamation celebrating the third annual Dancing for a Cure Health Fair was given to organizer Pamela Holloway. The fair will be held on Nov. 3 at 3:00 p.m. CT.

The event has been a staple in LaFayette’s square for the past three years. It started as a breast cancer awareness event and has expanded to provide information and resources on all cancers.

Holloway’s gym, Blessed Body & Fitness, puts on the fair. It is partnered with various health organizations, activities and sponsors. This year the event will include:

4 Spiritual – Love – Health with Veronica Roesly

4 LaFayette Mainstreet

There is a $10 registration fee and all of the proceeds will be going to cancer patients.

“Our third annual health fair is going to be having all cancer,” Holloway said. “We’re going to be again, passing out gas cars to all those that are dealing with cancer. And I do want to invite everybody out.”

Following Holloway was Doody who announced a Veterans Day parade in the city to take place on Nov. 9. An event will begin at 10 a.m. ending at the Chambers County Community Health and Wellness Center for a celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. CT.

The route will go down B Street, passing by the nursing home. Doody said that they have coordinated with the center to have all the veterans there come outside as the parade goes by to celebrate them. It will then take a right at the B Street tank en route to the assisted living facility.

“The administrators are thrilled that we’re considering those individuals that are generally there and don’t see visitors very often,” Doody said.

It will be a mile-long route ending at the CCCHWC where groups like the LaFayette High School JROTC and band will be performing. Barbeque and entertainment will be provided.

“There will be a recognition for the eldest veteran. And I encourage anyone that knows of any Veterans, to please have them come out now,” Doody said.

LaFayette will have a busy couple of weeks, as the annual truck or treat will also be taking place on the square to celebrate Halloween. Cars will park and the event will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Halloween night Oct. 31.
