During Monday night’s special called meeting, the LaFayette city council approved a proclamation for the Golden Age Soup Luncheon 2024 to be held on Nov. 23, 2024 hosted by the local chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority of the Lambda Zeta Omega chapter.
As stated by LaFayette Mayor Kenneth Vines, the proclamation reads, “The luncheon is referred to as the Golden Age Soup Lunch, and where the Lambda Zeta Omega chapter on the local level has supported many community causes, including having a strong history of supporting and serving families, understanding that a healthy family is the foundation of a healthy community. By supporting both our generation and fortifying our seniors through fellowship and Happy Earth exemplifies true service to all mankind.”
The event will be held at the Powell Chapel United Methodist Church in LaFayette. The AKA service project is meant to give an opportunity to uplift families and older folks in the community as Thanksgiving day approaches.
“Your organization continues to stand in the gap to empower our families and community while responding in the best interest for all people,” Vines said at the meeting. “And now, therefore, be it resolved that in support of Lambda Zeta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, I Kenneth Vines as Mayor of the City of Lafayette, Alabama, do hereby recognize November 23, 2024 as Golden Age Soup Luncheon Day for our seniors in the city of Lafayette, and call this observance to attention of all our citizens, November 18, 2024.”
