The LaFayette City Council approved a proposal for $1,547 of supplies for the Christmas Committee earlier this month. The Christmas Committee will use the funds to replace some worn-out decorations and add some new ones to the display around downtown.
According to committee chair Adrian Holloway, one new purchase this year will be for a backdrop area so that people can take Christmas pictures on the square. Other decorations from last year will be repurposed.
“Our goal is to have it where the snowflakes hung last year on the new city hall. If you so choose for us to do it,” Holloway said.
They also plan to purchase ornaments for the 15-foot tree that the city purchased last year which will be used for the city’s tree-lighting ceremony on December 1.
All of the purchased items will be the property of the city.
Holloway added that there is no labor charge included in the proposal. All labor will be done by Christmas committee members and volunteers.
The city council and mayor voted unanimously to approve the proposal for the committee’s budget. Council member Tammy Williams thanked Holloway for the work that the committee has done.
“Well, we love the city, and we’re glad to do it,” Holloway said.
