The Valley City Council got some business done at its final meeting before the Thanksgiving holiday. Following a public hearing involving residential zoning amendments, Mike Reynolds, Valley’s Police Chief presented to the council.
Two businesses applied for alcohol licenses in the city, Vapor Haze Lounge on Fob James Drive and Valley Live Ops at The Bowlin’ Alley. After reviewing the applications, Reynolds recommended the council approve both licensures, which they did so unanimously.
The council also accepted an agreement to hire Kimberly Carter for grant writing services.
The resolution to accept the agreement reads, “Whereas the City of Valley Alabama is in need of funds and whereas Kimberly Carter has presented to the city of Valley Alabama an agreement for grant consulting…the mayor and council of the city deem it to be in the best interest of the city to accept this agreement.”
Jim Jones said the agreement did not have a salary listed. Mayor Leonard Riley explained that the cost of the services was left off because it is being lowered from the original price of $125 an hour.
When Jones asked if the council should wait until they can get the new cost, Riley asked they go ahead and approve the agreement so Carter could begin and he would get the cost to them once it is finalized. The council approved the hiring of Carter for grant writing services.
Carter has provided grant writing services for the Chambers County Development Authority in the past and is currently working at Russell Medical.
The city approved the sale of eight lots on 30th Street to Kobeck Properties, LLC for $245,000. Kobeck Properties is a homebuilding construction company out of Valley.
The next council meeting will be held on Monday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. ET at city hall. The annual Christmas tree lighting will take place immediately following the meeting.
