Burglary, attempted murder investigation in Lanett

On December 28, 2024, in the early morning hours, the Lanett Police Department received reports of gunshots from residents in the 2400 block of 16th Ave S.W. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a vehicle with a shattered driver’s side rear window.
Investigators have now gathered additional information regarding this incident in the 2400 block of 16th Ave Southwest, where it is believed the suspects entered two vehicles and then entered the residence through a window. The homeowner confronted the suspect as they entered the home, resulting in a struggle during which shots were fired. As the suspects fled the scene, they abandoned a firearm and a pink Nike backpack at the scene. There were no reported injuries.
This incident is now being investigated as a burglary 1st Degree and attempted murder.
The recovered firearm was identified as having been reported stolen in a separate incident involving suspects who had broken into multiple vehicles in the area of the Cahaba Springs housing project in Lanett. Video evidence and additional materials were found at the scene, showing the suspects, one of whom was carrying a pink Nike backpack during the thefts.
Recovered evidence is being submitted to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for DNA analysis.
