EDITOR’S NOTE: The Valley Times-News is doing a Q&A with all of the support staff of the year in the Chambers County School System. Today, we are writing about Christy Goss, a Pre-K Paraprofessional at Fairfax Elementary School. We asked her 17 questions, and we included some of our favorite responses below.

For the past 16 years, Christy Goss has been a staple of Fairfax Elementary School, serving the students of Chambers County as a Pre-K paraprofessional.

That year stands for many anniversaries in Goss’ life, as she also married her husband Bryan Poe 16 years ago. She has two sons, Daniel Goss who works as a pharmacy technician at Fairfax Drug Co. and Josh Goss who works down the road at Knauf Insulation in Huguley.

At Fairfax, Goss is a sponsor of SGA, which promotes student involvement and community outreach. She also teaches youth Sunday school at Calvary Baptist in Huguley.

Outside of school, Goss volunteers by collecting canned goods for the Christian Service Center and packing shoe boxes at Calvary Baptist for Sammaritan’s Purse Ministry.

What inspired you to be an educator?

“Natural nurturer and servant. Loving and caring for others is my favorite calling in life.”

If you weren’t a teacher, what career field would you be in?

“My childhood dream was to be an astronaut. Today, if I were to ask this question, it would be to become a family counselor.”

What hidden talent do you have that might surprise your students and our readers?

“I love to sing but I wouldn’t call it a ‘talent.’ My four-year-olds don’t mind my singing though. Ha ha.”

If your teaching style had a theme song, what would it be?

Jokingly, I’d say “One Day at a Time Sweet Jesus!” but honestly, I have to say “Go Light Your World” by Chris Rice.”

If you could invite any historical figure to speak to your class, who would you choose and why?

“Santa Claus. I teach Pre-K!”

What did it mean to you to be named your school’s support staff of the year?

“I appreciate the acknowledgement and will strive to continue to be deserving of this honor.”

On a weekend or summer day when school is out, what are your favorite activities?

“I love to work at our church’s Association Adventure Camp at ELBA and teach at VBS each summer at my church Calvary Baptist. Day trips to Callaway and our family land in Wedowee, Alabama, are what summer is all about for me.”

As your students transition to the next grade or graduate in May, what is one key takeaway you hope they carry forward from their time in your class?

“For my Pre-K children that are headed to Kindergarten, it is my hope that they know they are in control of themselves and that they can do great things.”
