County Engineer Josh Harvill gave an update on county road maintenance projects at Monday night’s county commissioners meeting. Many roads in the county have been getting striping and pavement markers recently.

In late summer, according to Harvill, the county submitted a list of maintenance roads to be striped. Harvill said the county also has requested construction projects for this year which were delayed a bit.

The contractor began the construction projects last week in the northwestern part of the county.

The roads that they began striping last week were County Roads 237, 259, 281, 62, 33, 281, 282 and 48.

Many of the roads will only be getting a center line stripe and not an edge stripe.

“All these roads are a little different. We don’t specify an edge stripe on our chip seal rows. Generally, it’s only hot mix, or what you consider the black top roads that we would put edge stripes on,” Harvill explained at the meeting.

Most of them will be getting center line stripes and pavement markers though.

Harvill said the goal will be to continue to work toward the eastern side of the county on striping project on CR 216. CR 84 will be getting new pavement markers but no striping.

The contractor will also be working on 16th Street Southwest and 63rd Avenue Southwest across from West Haven cemetery.

The county is also looking to stripe the section of CR 208 that was recently paved. The two streets around Huguley Elementary School, 38th Avenue and 32nd Street still need a center line stripe and pavement markers as well.

First Avenue which accesses the Lanett airport and CR 388 at exit 70 at the east sice of the interchange need work completed as well.
