Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Valley Times-News is doing a Q&A with all of the support staff of the year in the Chambers County School System. Today, we are writing about Tina Wilkins, a P.E. Aide at Huguley Elementary. We asked her 17 questions, and we included her responses below.

For all six years that Tina Wilkins has been working in education, she has been in the Chambers County School System. She has served in her current position as P.E. Aide at Huguley Elementary School for two years now.

A true native of the community, not only did Wilkins attend Huguley Elementary School in her day but all three of her children went to school there as well.

Wilkins went on to attend Auburn University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education.

Wilkins has been married to her spouse Tom Wilkins for 21 years now.

Tom retired from the US Army after a 20 year career. He also graduated from Auburn University using his GI Bill, Wilkins said.

Education in Chambers County has played a significant role in the Wilkins family.

Of her three children, Wilkins has one son, Hunter Shurden. Shurden graduated from Auburn University and is following in his mother’s footsteps, stepping into the education field. He serves as a PE teacher at Wacoochee Elementary School in Lee County.

Wilkins’ oldest daughter Haril Shurden is also an Auburn University alum and like her mother and brother, she has chosen to pursue a career in education. She returned to her old alma mater just like her mother and currently works as a second grade teacher at Huguley Elementary School.

But there is still time for the last daughter of the crew, Aubree Wilkins, to follow the family path. Aubree is currently an eighth grade student at W.F. Burns Middle School.

If you could invite any historical figure to dinner, who would you choose and why?

Donald Trump to discuss his plans and aspirations.

What’s the most rewarding part about your job?

Spending my day with the awesome students and staff at Huguley Elementary School.
