It was another great football year in Chambers County. Every year we recognize some of the standout players from the season.

The All-Valley Team consists of three athletes, these are players who dominated on both sides of the ball, 11 offensive players, 11 defensive players and one kicker. See the full list at the bottom of the article.

The athlete picks were by far the most competitive, as local talent showed up on both sides of the ball.

It was the year of Luke Tarver. The Chambers Academy running back and linebacker had a spectacular season, securing his place on the All-State team as well as being up for Lineman of the Year and Mr. Football Alabama, which will be announced later this month. He ran for 1,722 yards on 127 attempts for 24 touchdowns. On defense, he had 65 tackles, an interception, four PBUs, a sack and a fumble recovery. He also led his team to another state championship, as Chambers went back-to-back in Montgomery.

Another All-State nominee was LaFayette’s Zephaniah Phillips for his work as a defensive end. He tallied 44 solo tackles and 47 assisted, 20 tackles for loss and 12 sacks. He was also explosive on offense, as the Bulldog’s running back. He ran for 1,122 yards on 86 carries and 22 touchdowns. He also caught for 230 yards and three touchdowns.

His Rebel teammate Spencer Newman was dominant as an offensive tackle. Newman was also an easy pick for All-State. He has a Division 1 offer from Murray State.

Lanett’s Christopher King was the final OL selection. King made big plays as a part of a strong offensive line for the Panthers. He notched 22 knockdowns, 28 pancake blocks and got an 87 percent grade for the year.

Valley’s Nikelen Linson was the final linebacker pick. He had 43 solo tackles and 32 assists. Nine of those were tackles for a loss. He also had four sacks and an interception.
