The Wildcats are getting hot at the right time. The Springwood boys faced Chambers Academy in LaFayette on Friday night.
The Lanett side came out on top, winning 65-46.
After a turbulent start to the season, Springwood has won eight of their last nine games and is at the top of their region with a record of 4-0.
Chambers has struggled this season and has yet to notch a win in region play. The Rebels currently sit at the bottom of the table.
The Wildcat’s Kori Key came out swinging, sinking three three-pointers in the first frame. As always, the Springwood defense pressed from the start, setting the tone for an explosive rivalry game.
In the first quarter, both defenses played tough. The guests just had the edge going into the second quarter 20-12.
The second half is where things got interesting. Both offenses erupted which resulted in both sides getting scrappy. A bloody nose, a technical and some yelling saw two angry teams into the locker room. Springwood led 42-30 going into the second half.
Both sides cooled a bit after coming out of the locker room, tightening up the game.
The Rebels offense was only able to put up seven points in the third, allowing Springwood a 20-point lead going into the fourth and final quarter.
Despite Chambers outscoring the visitors 9-8 down the stretch, the deficit was too great to make up. The final score was 65-46 in favor of the Wildcats.
The Rebels spread the wealth, and eight players were placed on the score sheet. Hunter Andrews led the scoring and was the only Rebel to break double digits with 12 points on the night. Jake Reames and Trey Tigner put up nine apiece.
Key was the leader for the Wildcats with 14 points. Clarence Moore and Wes Carden had 13 apiece, followed by CJ and Greg Johnson with nine and six points, respectively.
Chambers will get another shot to beat an area opponent on Monday when they take on Southern Prep, who has also struggled this year.
Springwood will also return on Monday, taking on non-region opponent, Oaks, at home.
