It was all Lanett for the second installment of Panthers versus Bulldogs this season. Lanett beat LaFayette 38-15.
The Panthers triumphed over their cross-county rivals for the second time this month. They are undefeated in their area, 5-0, after the matchup on Friday. LaFayette has struggled this season, notching a single win so far and sit at the bottom of the table in their area.
LaFayette only had one basket in the run of play, the rest came from free throws. Lanett on the other hand had success making runs inside and getting rebounds.
It was lopsided early, with LaFayette struggling to execute offensive plays and Lanett’s defense suffocating them with the press.
Makenley James and Armani Langdon sunk two three-pointers in the first to get the home crowd into it. The Bulldogs managed to eke out three points in the first frame.
Skye Boston kept the tempo for the Bulldogs. When LaFayette’s defense could rebound they would look for the speedy player down court. Boston made good runs inside and forced fouls. she went 8 for 12 from the free-throw line.
Lanett’s defense only allowed six points by the visiting team in the first half. LaFayette did match points 6-6 in the fourth when Lanett had sent in their reserves. But, it wasn’t enough for the mighty Panthers.
Boston led LaFayette with 13 points, eight of those coming from free throws. The only other Bulldog to get on the stat sheet was Hope McClure with two points.
Lanett spread the wealth with eight players putting points up. MaKiah White has been the offensive playmaker this season and led the team on Friday with 11 points. James was close behind with nine points, all three-pointers.
Lanett will be back in action at home on Tuesday against Reeltown. LaFayette will also be playing an area game against Loachapoka next week. The Bulldogs play on Jan. 22 on the road.
