A press release from Chambers County 911 & EMA warned that if you are not already where you plan to be for the day, please make plans to get to where you are going very soon. At some point, the dry air aloft will be overtaken by the moisture and the snow will begin sticking to roadways and travel could be hazardous.
As the day moves forward, feel free to send any snow accumulation pictures or anything winter weather related to Kathy Hornsby by email (Deputy.director@chambers911ema.org) or post to our social media account at https://www.facebook.com/ ChambersCountyEMA/
Should roads become impassable, we will work with the Chambers County Highway Department and rely on their lead as to whether to issue a Travel Advisory.

Updated map for the northern end of the snow totals area. The way the map is generated, it takes literally anything over 0.0″ and assigns it that light blue color. So even with the lightest of dustings, the map was showing as <1″. This seemed to be a bit odd, so we updated the map to not read the “dusting or less” amounts. Here is the updated map from 12:30 pm.
Here’s what we’re seeing now: the dry air that has been a bane to this snow’s existence is trying really hard to keep things from moving northward. The snow was making a good effort in the south and then dry air moved in and the snow is having to fight the dry air. Will the dry air win the battle? Will the snow succeed? Our forecast is on the snow. And we still have the afternoon to go. This activity isn’t expected to move east until around/after sunset.
We’re seeing reports of snow in the southern half of the state, and the snow should continue throughout the day. If you must leave where you are, prepare a safety kit for your car. Take it slow, don’t use cruise, and most important, listen to officials and their updates.
If you do get snow and try to shovel the snow, take it slow, move small amounts, and take frequent breaks. Shoveling snow is taxing.
And don’t forget bringing your pets inside!
Snow totals will accumulate through the afternoon, so stay safe, stay aware of the road conditions, and listen to local officials.
