Lanett Girls are area champions. The Panthers dominated in the area finals against Reeltown with a decisive 59-19 win on Monday night.
The area championship seemed inevitable as the Panthers remained undefeated, 6-0, in the area.
The girls were at the top of their game as 11 players got on the score book.
Reeltown kept it close in the first frame. By the end of the first quarter Lanett was up 15-10. The Panther’s press however stifled anything Reeltown’s offense tried for the rest of the game.
The Panthers physical offense drew many free throw opportunities. Despite only going 9 for 23 from the line, the offense was able to out score the Rebels by 40 points.
Team offense helped widen the score in the second quarter but it was the defensive efforts that kept Reeltown to just two points in the frame.
The second half was even more dominant as Lanett only allowed seven points in the third while having the best offensive period of the night with 21 points.
The Panthers shut Reeltown out completely in the fourth. The area champs had started putting in the reserves in the third quarter.
MaKiah White did what she has done consistently this season and led the Panthers in scoring with 17 points. The next highest scorers were Tyra Jackson and Jaylin White with eight points apiece.
The regional playoffs are still being finalized as area play raps up. Lanett looks to have a deep run in the postseason.
