VALLEY — The Valley girls soccer team was unable to get anything going in a 10-0 loss against Prattville Christian on Monday night.
The match was stopped at the 34-minute mark in the second half after Prattville’s final goal.
“They have a lot of growing up to do,” Valley girls head soccer coach Travis Engram said. “I hope it hurts a little bit, I hope they learn from their loss and I hope they come in a little more hungry than they did.”
In the Monday matchup, temperatures constantly hovered around 40 degrees as Prattville dominated time of possession and carried an 8-0 lead into the half.
“We were aloof, and not very focused, which ended up costing us,” Engram said. “It shouldn’t have been 10-0 this quickly.”
After both teams shook hands, Prattville’s head coach huddled the Rams around and gave the team a few encouraging words before Valley headed back to the locker room.
Engram did see one positive in the match, however.
“We have an amazing goalkeeper,” he said. “[Junior] Arianna Palacios was amazing in goal, and then we had not much else. We had good goalkeeping, and in moments we controlled the midfield, but not for very long.”
In Valley’s inaugural season, nights like Monday can be expected, but Engram said that he wanted the team to win more through balls over the top.
Moving forward, Engram said that he believes that there is still a light at the end of the tunnel for this season’s Rams.
“This was not an area game,” he said. “That’s the most important thing. We have to win our area games, if we win our area games, then everything else is fine.”
Valley returns home on Thursday for an area game against Elmore County. The Rams hope to have more players available for the contest after missing recent action due to illnesses and absences on Thursday as well, Engram said.
