VALLEY — The Chattahoochee Valley Historical Society’s first quarterly meeting of calendar year 2018 will be taking place at 3 p.m. EST on Sunday, Nov. 21 and should be something for people of all ages to enjoy.

Auburn author Laura Murray of lauramurraycreative.com will be there to talk about “Amazing Alabama,” a one-of-a-kind coloring book for youngsters that’s packed full of information many adults in the state are not aware of.

Every county in the state is featured with a delightful line drawing of an iconic landmark in that county. Anyone thumbing through the coloring book will be reminded of well-known places to see in Alabama and, in many cases, learn of interesting places in the state such as a pitcher plant bog in Chilton County, Hatchett Creek in Coosa County and a very unusual post office in Etowah County.

“This has been a labor of love for me,” Murray said. “It started in May 2016 when I realized there wasn’t a coloring book about the state. I reached out to NewSouth Books in Montgomery with a layout, some sketches and a few ideas, and  the rest is history.”

Murray said she thoroughly enjoyed driving around the state and researching to find just the right image for each county, Each county in the state has its own page full of drawings about that county, its history, architecture, topography, plants, livestock and interesting places to see.

The meeting will take place in Bradshaw-Chambers County Library’s Lanier Room. It should be an ideal time for parents or grandparents to take children and grandchildren to a program that interests them.

Murray will have some of her  coloring books for sale.

“I will even offer some fun coloring tips that can be practiced at home,” she said, noting she will also be talking about her latest project – creating a coloring book about Georgia, a state with 159 counties.
