Mr. Roby David Leverett

Roby David Leverett, 77, of Carrollton, Georgia, died on May 28 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta surrounded by his family. David was born in West Point on March 30, 1942, to the late Roby and Mary Dorough Leverett. He married Jane Owen Brown of Atlanta on August 27, 1972.

David graduated from West Point High School in1960 and was rated the No. 4 football player in the state of Georgia accepting a full scholarship to theUniversity of Georgia. In addition, he was offered a baseball scholarship to Florida State University. He also attended LaGrange College. There was not a sport or game David undertook in which he did not excel. Whatever he endeavored to do, he did it well. He enjoyed hunting, billiards, table tennis, cards, golf, and was a ranked Bass Fishing Master. He was at home in any outdoor setting, especially loving the woods and water.

David was employed with Sears and Roebuck for 25 years until his retirement in 1992.

David’s pranks and jokes are legendary, becoming lore throughout West Georgia. He loved to laugh and make others laugh as well. He never met a stranger and was loved by everyone who knew him. David is remembered as being especially compassionate and empathetic to the plight of others, thereby fulfilling the Golden Rule in treating others as he would wish to be treated. He was a believer and lived his life by the Christian principles he espoused.

We shall not see the likes of him again, and he will be very sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife Jane, their two children Mitzi Leverett Willingham of Carrolton, and MajorBlake Leverett of Fort Irvin, California, grandchildren Abby and Bradley, sister Jenny Leverett Bradfield (Norman), nieces and nephews, cousins and many beloved friends.

David was proceeded in death by his parents.

A memorial service and celebration of David’s life will be held at Bluffton Funeral Services in Lanett onMay 31 at 3 p.m. EDT. The family will greet friends for visitation after the service at Bluffton FuneralServices.
