Local attorney Benjamin Wilcox has been named one of the best immigration attorneys in the state for client satisfaction by the American Institute of Legal Counsel.
Wilcox, whose law practice is in West Point, said he started handling immigration cases about six or seven years ago.
“It was humbling that somewhere along the way other attorneys and clients have actually nominated me for this honor,” Wilcox said. “It was surprising when I was contacted. It was definitely a good feeling to know people appreciate the time and effort that I put into these cases.”
Wilcox said he handles cases all throughout Georgia, and he’s seen his immigration cases increase since Kia opened about a decade ago.
“A lot of the cases are good people who for whatever reason, either they tried to do the original paperwork themselves or because of language barriers, there were issues with filings done properly,” Wilcox said.
Judy Covington, member benefit coordinator for the American Institute, said attorneys are nominated by former and current clients, other attorneys and through the institute’s own research.
“We considered his over 13 years in practice, his online reviews, presence and also the lack of any negative reviews of any kinds, which is indicative or his excellent customer service and subsequent client satisfaction,” Covington said via email.
Wilcox said his practice is small, so he’s able to spend a lot of one-on-one time with his clients.
“I think that helps,” Wilcox said.
Wilcox said his wife, Eunjoo, also helps with his cases because she is Korean and speaks numerous languages.
“She is my No. 1 translator,” Wilcox said.
Wilcox has served on the West Point City Council and now serves as an assistant municipal court judge for the city.
