WEST POINT — At approximately 6:15 p.m. EST on Wednesday, January 31,  2018, Mr. Wanda Buckner, 44, of West Point was arrested on charges of aggravated sexual battery, aggravated sodomy, aggravated assault and multiple other misdemeanor charges. According to a West Point Police Department report, these charges re related to an assault that took place on August 25, 2017. Buckner was processed in the Troup County Jail and is being held without bond at this time.

According to the WPPD, Bucker also faces five charges of criminal attempt at murder and two counts of first degree arson.

This is from an incident that reportedly took place on Monday, January 29th.

The West Point Fire Department and the WPPD were responded to a residential fire that was taking place on the 1400 block of Avenue K. “The fire appeared to be of a suspicious nature,” reads the police report. “The West Point Police Department requested assistance from the LaGrange Police Department’s arson investigator.”

A joint investigation with the police and fire departments revealed that a fire had been intentionally set to the apartment duplex. Both apartments were occupied when this took place, None of the occupants were injured.

“The West Point Police Department wold like to express its appreciation to the LaGrange Police Department and the West Point Fire Department for their assistance in this investigation,” said a WPPD spokesman.

Lee County man found dead

AUBURN Ala. — At approximately 2:15 p.m. CST on Wednesday, January 31st, Auburn Police, Auburn Fire and EAMC EMS responded to an emergency medical call at a residence on the 700 block of Davis Court. Upon arrival, they found 33-year-old James Brandon Lassister of Auburn trapped underneath a vehicle with no signs of life.

The victim was able to be moved from underneath the vehicle, and CPR was immediately initiated along with other life-saving measures. These efforts were unsuccessful, and Lee County Coroner Bill Harris pronounced Lassiter dead at the scene at 2:30 p.m. He died from traumatic asphyxia due to crushing chest injuries. It appears that Lassiter was working on a vehicle when the supports holding up suddenly shifted and gave way, trapping Lassiter under the vehicle. There is no foul play suspected, and the incident is being investigated as a tragic accident. No postmortem exam will be performed.

The case remains under investigation by the Auburn Police Division and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.

Lanett reports

LANETT — Four people were arrested in Lanett on Thursday. According to Lanett Police Department reports,

David Joseph King, 18, has been charged with receiving stolen property, first degree;

Nicholas Starks Tanner, 19, of LaGrange, Ga. has been charged with receiving stolen property, first degree;

Travis Damon Billingslea, has been charged with failure to pay on a charge of possession of marijuana, second degree, and

Juanita Ann Little, 54, of Lanett has been charged with FTP – expired license.

In incidents being investigated by Lanett police, theft of property, fourth degree, was reported on the 2300 block of South Broad Avenue; theft by deception, fourth degree, has been reported on the 2100 block of Veterans Memorial Parkway; harassment, menacing and domestic violence, third degree, has been reported on the 1100 block of 44th Court SW; criminal trespass, third degree, and harassment has been reported on the 1100 block of South 12th Street; domestic violence, third degree, and harassment has been reported on the 4000 block of 23rd Court SW and burglary, third degree, and theft of property, third degree, reported on the 2000 block of 23rd Street SW.

Valley reports

VALLEY — Two incidents were reported to the Valley Police Department on Thursday. According to VPD reports, an incident of dogs being permitted to run at large was reported on the 1000 block of Birch Street, and an incident of harassing communications reported on the 300 block of Williams Street.

West Point reports

WEST POINT — West Point police officers responded to two incidents that were reported on Thursday. According to WPPD reports, criminal trespass and damage to property took place on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and some property was damaged on Avenue D.
