Mrs. Anita Huguley — 1925-2019

Mrs. Anita Huguley, the daughter of the late James and Estelle Davidson Gilliam, was born Aug. 31, 1925, in Troup County. She departed this life on Sept. 30 at EAMC-Lanier in Valley.

“Neat,” as she was known, was employed for over 50 years by Frank and Ann Wilkinson. In her later years, she was a home-maker. She enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles and gardening.  

Anita was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1978. She loved Jehovah and loved reading the Bible. Her children, grandchildren and two great-grandsons were her pride and joy. Nurturing and mothering them brought her great “joy.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaines Huguley; four sisters; and three brothers.

She is survived by her daughters, LaMerles Turner, of West Point, Theresia Edmonson, of Lanett; four grandchildren, Pataski Jabbar (Jutico) Edmonson, of Sandy Springs, Georgia, Marla Edmonson, of Lanett, McKenzie Phllips, of Atlanta, Donovan Phillips, of West Point; one step-granddaughter, Mattie Sue Govan, of West Point; two great-grandsons, Raphael Brooks, of Lanett, and Omari Edmonson, of Lithonia, Georgia; two brothers, Tommy (Dorothy) Gilliam, Wilburn Gilliam, of West Point; one sister, Bessie Billingsley, of West Point; a large fleshly family and a large spiritual family.

Funeral service for Mrs. Huguley will be held on Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. EDT at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Valley with elder Jeff Morgan, Elder Douglas Rowe and brother John Haynes, officiating. Interment will follow in Marseilles Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the Kingdom Hall on Oct. 5 from 2 p.m. until the funeral hour.

Public viewing will take place on Oct. 4 from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the mortuary.
