Chambers Academy alumni, staff, students, and faculty are gathering this weekend to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary.
The weekend starts with a flag football game Friday between alumni of all eras, going back 45 years to the first Chambers football team.
Emily Milford is a Chambers alumna and is now on staff as a counselor.
“Some players have just graduated, and some are in their sixties,” Milford said. It should be an interesting event.”
Milford is also the cheer coach and said an alumni cheerleading squad will be on the sidelines Friday. The group will perform a special halftime cheer.
Saturday’s festivities include a reunion tailgate.
“We’re encouraging all classes to come out and mingle with people they haven’t seen in awhile,” Milford said.
The anniversary weekend ends with a catered dinner Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The event will have a speaker, and alumni will get to hear about the school’s history and its vision for the future. Prizes will also be given out.
Chambers Academy has seen several changes through the decades.
“We’ve done a lot of physical improvements, like adding on to the building, making technological improvements, and adding air conditioning in the gym,” Milford said. “But we’ve also have widened our opportunities like offering dual enrollment, and entering an agreement with the Career Tech Center, where students can take classes.”
Milford said that the school hopes for a big crowd Friday.
“We are taking RSVP’s, but are saving a few spots to be available Saturday night,” Milford said. “We are opening the doors to anyone with ties to Chambers and we would love to have everyone back.”
