LANETT — Masonic Lodge No. 656 in Lanett, had a well-attended car show on Saturday.

Since 2013, the lodge has had a spring car show and a fall show, which raises money for the lodge’s annual scholarship program. These scholarships help high school graduates from the Chambers County area continue their education.

“We enjoy putting it on,” said Worshipful Master Barry Smith. “We always have some really nice cars on display, and people come from all over to take part in it.”

It was a homecoming of sorts for the car that won the People’s Choice Award. The award went to Marilyn Noles of the Low and Slow Car Club of Opelika for her beautifully restored 1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

“I call it my Tucson,” Noles said. “I bought it new when I was living in Arizona. I later sold it to a man from Lanett who lives only a couple of blocks from here. I later bought it back and restored it.”

Noles said the Monte Carlo went through a few tough weeks to get to this car show.

“It’s been through a lot,” Noles said. “I blew a tire coming back from one of these shows. I blew a motor going to LaFayette Day one year and had to put in a new engine.”

Steve Lipham, who lives on Lake Harding, won the Master’s Choice Award for his 1970 Ford F-150.

“I’ve done a few things to it,” he said. “I extended the exhaust to the back, replaced a scratched window and replaced a fuel cell.”

Lipham said he enjoys driving the truck and hearing people tell him it’s a classic.
