WEST POINT — Point University is having a block party in downtown West Point to celebrate its homecoming from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8.
However, the party isn’t just for Point alumni, according to Tavaris Taylor, Point University’s director of Alumni and Church Relations.
“We’re inviting the entire community from the Greater Valley area,” Taylor said. “From West Point, and Lanett, and Troup County. We want everyone to know how much the community has meant to Point University. So, the block party is an opportunity for people to take part and see what Point University is.”
The event is part of Homecoming Weekend, which ends with a football game Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against St. Andrews University. This year’s theme is Together We Fly, which seemed an appropriate tie-in for inviting the neighbors.
“We’re coming together to celebrate all in one place,” Taylor said
The party will be in the university parking lot at 507 W. 10th St. in West Point. Taylor said the street will be shut down during the party time.
He said the festivities will include bands, choirs, food trucks, games, and inflatables.
The event will also be kid-friendly, Taylor said.
Scheduled to perform are the Royal Dance Academy in LaGrange, Point University Signature Voices, Point University bands, as well as Point alumni Garrett Mots and Ajani Brown.
“This makes seven years for us in West Point,” Taylor said. “We can’t wait to celebrate with the community.”
