Skating rink to hold Halloween party

Two area events are offering Halloween-themed entertainment without the screams — a skating party and an organ concert.
The Skatin’ Rink, located at 128 Fob James Drive in Valley, will host “A Nightmare at the Skating Rink Halloween Party” from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday.
“It’ll be scary and fun,” co-owner Jason Turnham said of The Skatin’ Rink’s Halloween Party.
Making surprise appearances throughout the night will be famous movie creatures like Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers and Ghostface from “Scream.”
“They’ll scare people, then pose for pictures,” Turnham said. “We don’t want to terrify people.”
Door prizes will be given through the night, as well as first, second and third place in the best costume contest. Costumes don’t have to be scary, but they do have to be safe. Since it’s a skating party, costumes can’t be below the ankle, or come with props like fake knives or wands. Costumes also can’t be revealing, as it is an evening for families.
Admission for the Skating Party is $10 per person.
“Everyone pays on special events, parents included,” Turnham said, explaining that sometimes parents get in free to events for children.
There will be games and races and special music. The party is from 6 until 10 p.m.
Another family event, Phantoms of the Organ: LaGrange’s Great Spooktacular Organ Concert, will be held Saturday at LaGrange First Methodist Church at 401 Broad St. at 7 pm. Admission is free.
Area organists will be playing Halloween music this Saturday at LaGrange First Methodist Church.
“They’ll play everything from Bach to Ghostbusters” Bettie Biggs said.
She’s the Artistic Director of The Choral Society of West Georgia, the group sponsoring the event.
Local actress Molly Fitsimmon will narrate the evening dressed as The Lady in White.
“They will perform three or four typical Halloween classical pieces,” Biggs said. “And then the fun stuff, like a selection from the score for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by John Williams.”
Organist Anthony Criswell will present a medley of spooky 60’s sitcom themes — The Addams Family, Scooby Doo and the Munsters.
Phantom of the Organ is in collaboration with the LaGrange Downtown Development Authority, and is part of the city’s Chili Cookoff and Trick or Treat. It starts at 7 p.m.
