Beth Abney will continue to serve as Chambers County’s revenue commissioner after an overwhelming victory on Tuesday night.

Abney defeated challenger Shannon Frailey 3,019 to 1,079, and won every precinct in the race.

“I’m so thankful to all the people that have helped me because this would not have has been possible without the help of a lot of great people,” Abney said. “Because this is all new to me. I am just so thankful beyond words, and humbled by all of the support that people have given me.”

Abney took over as revenue commissioner in March 2019 after Wendy Williams retired. At that point, she had already worked in the revenue commissioner’s office for more than 20 years as a certified business personal property appraiser, and she said she also essentially ran the office for Williams.  When Williams retired, she was appointed to the position.

“I want [voters] to know that it’s business as usual,” Abney said.

“I will do whatever I can in my power. And as I said in all of my speeches and all of my letters, I’m not closed minded to change if there’s anything that we see that we could change to service them and, and give them the service that they deserve and that they should have then by all means we will. [The office] will continue as it always has, as being an office of integrity and trustworthiness. It’s only about going higher from this point. It’s not about regressing.”

Frailey is a long-time law enforcement officer who has worked for the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office for the last two decades.
