The Springwood softball team struck first, but it couldn’t answer Glenwood’s attack, losing the area game 13-5 on Tuesday.

“We let it get out of hand there. We just didn’t make plays defensively,” Springwood head coach Galen Smith said. “We’ve played teams like Glenwood before where it snowballs, and you just have to kind of hang on. They’re a good team still.”

The Wildcats started the game off quickly, leading off the bottom of the first with a single and a double. With two runners on, the next Wildcats struck out. With two away, third baseman Bailey Morison singled through the right side of the infield, driving in the runners.

Glenwood answered with a pair of runs of their own in the top of the second. The Gators were able to draw a couple of walks and get a timely hit with runners on base.

The Gators took the lead in the top of the third inning. They were able to string together multiple hits, which drove in four runs in the frame.

The Wildcats struck back in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on first and second, freshman Alyssa Burrows doubled down the left-field line for her second double of the game, driving in both runners.

Once again, the Gators answered the Wildcats in the next half-inning. In the top of the sixth, Glenwood struck for six runs. They were able to come up with a couple of hits but mainly scored on the Wildcats’ mistakes.

The Gators struck again in the top of the seventh, scoring a run off a pair of hits.

The Wildcats tagged on a run in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, shortstop McKayla Barber singled through the left side of the infield. Morrison followed suit, singling to the same spot. Barber scored from second when Miranda Butler singled to right field.
