Mr. Theron Sorrell, age 88 of Valley, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama. He was born on May 28, 1931 in Lanett to the late Curtis and Icy Mae Sorrell.

Sorrell is best remembered as a multi-talented man.  He came from a very musical family and learned to play the piano at a very young age.  He served as a choir director and organist for several churches in the Valley area and in Melbourne, Florida for over 70 years.  Using another God given talent, he and his wife, Rachel, opened the House of Flowers in Valley in 1970, where he quickly made his mark as a leading floral designer in the region.

Sorrell was also known for his witty remarks and attempts at joke telling.  It was quite often that he would try to tell a joke, but before he got to the punch line, he would start laughing so hard that he couldn’t finish the joke.  Everyone around him would start laughing as well…but he thought they were laughing at the joke, when in reality, they were laughing at him getting so tickled.  He simply loved to laugh and have a good time…even in his final days, he was cracking jokes.

Sorrell was a perfect role model as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  He truly was a charming, loving, and passionate man and will be sorely missed.

The family would like to thank Gary, Corey, and the entire staff at Lakewood Senior Living for the wonderful care they provided during his 10 month residency at the facility.  You are angels from heaven…each and every one.  Sincere gratitude also to the staff at Bethany House in Auburn, where he spent his final 11 days.  Your compassion for him and the family was such a blessing as his life came to a conclusion.  We thank you.

Sorrell is survived by his three children, Donna Sue (Jerry) Rock of the Lake Harding Community, Theda (Mike) Griffin of Ringgold, Georgia, and Steven (Teena) Sorrell of Valley; nine grandchildren, Kelly (Gator Kincaid) Williams, Jake (Tori Beth) Thompson, Michael (Samantha) Griffin, Nicholas Sorrell, Reggie Rock, Michelle Liriano, Monique Wiggins, Kelley McLaughlin, and Devon Owens; 11 great grandchildren; special friends, Trudy and Jeff Adams.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Rachel Yates Sorrell.
