Severe weather is possible in Chambers County and Troup County on Sunday.
Both counties are in the National Weather Service’s enhanced risk area, meaning the potential for strong tornadoes, damaging winds up to 70 mph and quarter-sized hail, from 2 p.m. until 2 a.m. EST.
“These are strong storm systems that are going to be coming in, and we’re going to have the threats of large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes,” Alabama National Weather Service meteorologist Jason Holmes said. “The tornado threat includes the potential for some strong tornadoes that can track across portions of central Alabama.”
The time range is for the entire central Alabama region. The storms are expected to pass through Chambers County in the mid-afternoon or the evening, starting around 5 or 6 p.m. EST.
“We don’t want people to get too focused on the windows of time. We just want them to be watching things and to continue to look for updates,” Holmes said.

“The main hazard at this point is strong damaging winds, but certainly there is the possibility for tornadoes with that as well,” Georgia National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Lynn said.
Lynn also said the best way to track the storm before it reaches Georgia is to pay attention to its path in Alabama.
“This is covering the entire southeast really,” Lynn said.
With COVID-19 limits still in place, the National Weather Service and the Department of Health have issued a statement that said to protect yourself from severe weather first then follow the regulations set in place dealing with COVID-19.
