Mr. General Winston, 84, of West Point, transitioned on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at West Georgia Hospice, LaGrange, Georgia. Mr. Winston was born Nov. 25, 1935, to the late Wilburn and Loudora Winston in Cusseta.
He was a member of the Lanier High School class of 1953.
General accepted Christ at an early age, uniting with the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Cusseta and in later years, he attended Emanuel Chapel CME Church, West Point.
He met and married the love of his life, Sarah Gladys Winston. They were married for 60 years. Out of this union of love, five beautiful children were born. General retired from West Point Pepperell Mill, after 30 years of dedicated service, as a chord and spinning operator. General had a lawn mower shop in his backyard, where he could be found fixing and repairing lawnmowers for almost everyone in the community
Mr. Winston was preceded in death by his brother, Charlie (Janie) Winston; sisters, Shame Winston, Lillie Pearl (Peter) Lovelace and Minnie Kate (Jessie) Abner; brothers-in-law, Willis Lee Williams and Johnnie B. Owens; and nephew, Carl B. Winston.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and faithful wife, Sarah Gladys Winston; five children, Curtis (Celeste) Winston, Chauncey (Tabitha) Winston, Marcie (Sandra) Winston, Dedra Winston, and Marcus (Katherine) Winston; four loving sisters, Bessie Lee Wright, Emerine Bonner, Willie Mae Billingslea and Arvella Williams; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; god-son, Carlton Buchanon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends, Monroe Varnes, Amos Pittman, Joe Hargett, Horace Gilliam, and Ernest Scott.
Graveside service for Mr. Winston will be held on Monday, June 29, 2020, at noon in the Marseilles Cemetery with the Dr. John Williams, eulogist, Dr. Marcus Lovelace, Dr. Roderick Willams, assisting.
Public view will be on Sunday from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the mortuary.
