Mrs. Betty Joan Harmon, 87, of Lanett, passed away on July 19, 2020, at Diversicare in Lanett. Betty was born in West Point, Georgia on Sept. 30, 1932, to the late Ben and Mary Belle Pilkington Alexander.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim McCoy Harmon; brothers, Oneal Alexander, Ben Jr. Alexander, Raymond Alexander, Herbert Alexander, George Alexander; sisters, Annis Sharp, and Rudene Brille.

Betty was employed at Playtex in LaFayette and West Point Pepperell Carter/Lanier Mills.

Betty loved to cook and if you got up from her table hungry, it was your fault. She was an excellent baker specializing in cakes. She loved to camp with her husband Jim, especially in the deserts of the western United States.

Betty had two poodles at different times and named them both “Sissy”. She had been kiddingly accused of loving these dogs more than her own kids.

She was a lifelong Methodist, having been a member of Harrington Heights Methodist Church in Huguley, and Notasulga Methodist Church in Notasulga, where she taught Sunday School and was treasurer of Missionary Society.

Betty is survived by her sons, Roger (Ramona) Hood, Larry (Freddie) Hood; grandsons, Drew (Kim) Hood, Kevin (Sylvia) Hood, and Patrick (Anna Beth) Hood; great-grandchildren, Josiah Hood, Sarah Grace Hood, Polly Anna Hood, and Evelyn Mae Hood.

There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at 10 a.m. EST at Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett.

The family requests that lieu of flowers donations be made to Chattahoochee Hospice or your favorite charity.
