VALLEY — The Chattahoochee Federal Credit Union held its annual meeting of members where they presented its “People Helping People” Scholarship to Keiron Carter.

Carter was selected from among 4 applicants and is deserving of this award.

Carter submitted and essay on what it means to be a servant leader and his own experience being a servant leader. He has volunteered in community activities such as: Ram Renewal Days, Valley Chicken Q, Kiwanis book refurbishment, City of Valley Merry Go Round.

He is a member of the Beta Club, Rambassador of Valley High School, GVACC Jr. Ambassador, member of the football and track team, obtained an A average award since freshmen year, nominated for national Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists award.

Carter plans to attend University of Alabama at Birmingham to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Public Health.

He was joined by his family.

The “People Helping People” scholarship was established in 2016 to honor the commitment and dedication of Oscar Crawley to this credit union and to the over-all valley community.

Crawley served as a CFCU Board member for 17 years and as Board President from 2008 to 2015. He was dedicated to making CFCU a place where members could get the financial help that was needed to support their family.

The scholarship name “People Helping People” reflects exactly what Oscar represented, according to the group.

The scholarship is designed for a graduating high school senior who exhibit characteristics of servant leadership. A servant leader is someone who serves others in his/her work through collaboration, empathy, trust and the ethical use of authority. These characteristics are applicable to roles they have in your personal and work life, and can be applied at any level position within an organization.
