LaFAYETTE — For the fourth year in a row, Chambers Academy will put on a skeet shooting competition but this time with a twist: a family fun day has been included.

Besides the shooting competition, there will be arts & crafts, bouncy houses and various concessions.

According to David Howard, one of the organizers, there are several people planning on holding arts and crafts classes during the day. This will include painting and soap making classes.

Howard added that currently there are between 12 and 15 vendors signed up.

Alongside the family fun day, the annual skeet shooting competition will be held.

While registration for the event will not be held until the day of, Howard said they are expecting a similar turnout to last year when about 50 teams showed up.

The competition will feature 12 stations where attendees will try to get the top score for clay targets, rabbits and even a special long bird target with its own individual prize. Other prizes to be handed out include $400 for the top scoring team and $200 to each top scoring individual and youth..

Registration will be held the day of with a cost of $50 per entrant and $200 for each team of four.

Although this is only the first year for the combined event, Howard said plans are already in place for next year, including possibly changing the date to March.

“We’re expecting a good day,” Howard said, “We just pray that there’s no rain.”

The family fun day and skeet shooting competition will be held this Saturday, April 7. Registration for the competition begins at 7:30 a.m. CDT with the rest of the events beginning at 8 a.m. A raffle drawing will be held at 2 p.m. with the rest of the event winding down around 4 p.m.
