VALLEY — Mr. Jessie Lee Varner Jr., 48, transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Friday, April 20, 2018 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Ala.

He leaves to cherish his precious and loving memories, his beloved and caring wife, Dorothy Deretha Varner; a devoted daughter, Jessica Bernitquia Varner, and two sons, Laquaylen Antuan Gooden and Isaiah Williams; his parents, Jessie Lee (Ella Mae) Varner Sr., Five  Points, Ala.; Willene (Alford Sr.) McCord, Valley, Ala.; his brother, Mark McCord, Valley, Ala.; three step-brothers, Frederick Washington and Antwain Peavy, both of Five Points and Alford McCord Jr. of Columbus, Ga.; two step-sisters, Kia Peavy and Nicole Alford, both of Five Points; brothers-in-law Joseph Gooden and Anthony (Sandra) Gooden, both of Valley; Major (Sharon) Gooden, Virginia Beach, Va. and Wayne Williams, LaFayette, Ala.; sisters-in-law LaFran (Joseph) Abner and Melinda (Kenneth) Ferrell, both of Valley, and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. EDT, Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church in Cusseta, Ala. with the Rev. Arthur Thomas, eulogist, Rev. Sam Marshall Jr, officiant, and the Rev. Walter L. Darden Sr., Rev. Curtis Spidell and the Rev. Dexter Foreman assisting.
