Spring has arrived at last.

The daily temperatures are climbing into the 80s. Sunshine, accompanied by a light breeze, abounds.

According to the forecast, the ideal weather is here to stay. It is a prime time to enjoy the outdoors.

Fortunately, the Greater Valley Area has much to offer.

Whether it’s paddling down the Chattahoochee River, playing golf at the Point University Golf Club or strolling through Hardley Creek Park, local outdoor recreation opportunities exist for almost any interest.

Not many places can say the same.

While other towns may have a municipal golf course or a man-made pond, few boast the range of recreational activities present in the Valley.

It is a great area this time of year, especially if you’re an angler.

West Point Lake and Chambers County Lake are popular spots for local fishermen. Both have recently hosted competitions.

The Lanett chapter of the Free & Accepted Masons held their inaugural tournament this past weekend at West Point Lake. More than 25 boats set out at sunrise in pursuit of bass. The winners reeled in 20 pounds of fish, which netted them $2,500.

Already, plans are in place to continue the tournament next year.

Chambers County Lake, on the other hand, has hosted several tournaments over the past couple months. The lake held a month-long crappie event in March and a month-long bass event in April. In May, it will hold a month-long catfish event.

These fishing tournaments are open to anglers of all ages and skill levels, and they provide excellent opportunities to spend time near the water.

But if fishing isn’t your forte, you’re sure to find another outdoor outlet more suited to your taste.

The weather is too nice to waste.
