Springwood girls win Thanksgiving tournament

Springwood’s girls basketball team continued its dominant start to the season as they won Cornerstone Christian’s Thanksgiving tournament. 

The Wildcats coasted to a dominant 61-14 win over Bessemer Academy. 

Emily Jo Matthews was the leading scorer in the game. Matthews finished with 16 points. Shalexia Little poured in 11 points of her own.

Tori Patillo has been the leader of the team in the early parts of the season, Patillo finished with eight points. 

Springwood came back on Tuesday again in dominant fashion to win the tournament, beating North River 57-31. 

Patillo, Matthews and Little led the team again on Tuesday. 

Patillo and Matthews finished with 11 points, and Little added 10 points. 

The two wins improved the Wildcats’ record to 5-0 on the season. 

Springwood, led by coach Lisa Sampson, looks to continue that hot streak as they travel to take on Lafayette Christian on Nov. 27.
