Dial carries Chambers, faces runoff with Pate in July

After previous Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries John McMillan left the position vacant to pursue a state treasurer’s seat, four Republicans faced off Tuesday night.
Gerald Dial won the race in Chambers County with 1,881 votes, meaning he had 60.6 percent overall. Among his opponents, Tracy “T.O.” Crane received 315 votes, 10.15 percent; Cecil Murphy received 291, 9.38 percent; and Rick Pate received 617, 19.88 percent.
However, across the state Pate was the top contender, earing 40.37 percent of the overall vote. Dial earned only 29.98 percent of the overall vote. They will face each other in a runoff election on July 17.
