The Beulah Bobcats continued streaking on Monday as they defeated Notasulga 59-50 at home. 

After a tough start to the season, Beulah has turned it around. Early on, the team was struggling through a lack of chemistry and a complete lack of shooting. Now, the Bobcats are hitting their stride at the right time. 

“We’re shooting better, that always helps,” Beulah coach Thomas Hill said. “Those first three games, we kind of didn’t have a lot of practices under our belt, and now we’ve gotten our basketball feet under us. I think we’ve got a few seniors and a couple of juniors that show good leadership.” 

On Monday Beulah was led by the dynamic trio of Demarion Foreman, LJ Fitzpatrick and Cameron Baker. Foreman led the way with 24 points, three rebounds and five steals. Baker followed Foreman with 18 points, three steals and one rebound. Fitzpatrick finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and two steals. 

“Those three have been scoring consistently pretty much every game,” Hill said. “It’s been Demarion and LJ the last few seasons, but now Cam has joined the mix. He’s arguably just as good as they are. It helps to have three scorers instead of two. It’d be nice to have five scorers consistently in double digits, but we’ll take three for sure.” 

Free throws had been a struggle early on in the season. Beulah was pushed on Monday by a late surge from the Blue Devils, but made free throws eventually closed the game out. In total, the Bobcats connected on 11 of their 17 free-throw attempts in the game. 

Jederian Foreman has been a key role player for Beulah this season. On Monday, Foreman finished with two points and seven rebounds. 

Three-point shooting was a struggle against Notasulga. The Bobcats connected on just two of their 13 attempts. Demarion Foreman and Fitzpatrick were the only players to connect on a shot from behind the arc. 

The win on Monday marked Beulah’s fourth win in a row. The Bobcats now sit at 4-3, and the team is over .500 for the first time this season. 

Up next for Beulah is a road matchup against Randolph County on Wednesday. This starts area play for the Bobcats. With the beginning of area play, Hill is looking for his team to make several improvements. 

“I still feel like we’re athletic enough to take advantage of some opportunities, and we need to learn how to press,” Hill said. “Free throw shooting down the stretch was big. It helped us out tonight, but it hadn’t been there for the last couple of games.”
