VALLEY — In its May meeting, the Board of Directors of The Charter Foundation, Inc. voted to give the Valley High School Ram Touchdown Booster Club $10,000 to assist in purchasing a new sound system at Ram stadium.
“Charter Foundation is really good to the local charities around here and we’re excited about it,” Valley head football coach Buster Daniel said. “We need a new sound system in that stadium and that’s what we’re going to use it for. Today’s standard is that the kids want music, they don’t worry about what they say, the kids want music and the system that we have currently is just not good for that certain kind of thing. So we’re going to upgrade it and hopefully, the kids can play better.”
The funds are going to the booster club, whick handles all of the program’s financial responsibilities outside of the most basic needs. The school can’t legally pay for things like food, drinks and team t-shirts that the players are allowed to keep.
“They do a lot of behind the scenes work that a lot of people don’t know about,” Daniel said.
Updating the facilities is the next upgrade that Daniel wants to see at Valley High School. The current facilities were built around 30 years ago, according to Daniel. The Rams football program is growing to the point where 200 players from the seventh grade through 12th grade are expected to be in it at the start of the regular season in August.
“The football program here is really growing and we’re going to get bigger and bigger,” Daniel said. “We just need a facility that can hold all of the kids. [A place] to let them dress and work out in a big couple of places.”
The booster club is always welcoming donations year-round. The club also hosts fundraisers, including a new one called the “Back to School Bash,” which features a dunk tank, rodeos and a car show. If anyone wishes to donate, they can contact booster club president Brandi Nelson at bnelson@charterbank.net or Daniel at danielbu@chambersk12.org.
“If someone wants to donate a dollar, that’s a dollar more than what we have,” Daniel said.
