Chambers Academy’s girls basketball team battled through some struggles and defeated Lowndes Academy at home 43-37.
The Lady Rebels had control early on in the game, taking a 12-5 lead after the first period. Lowndes charged back and cut the lead to just four going into the half.
Lowndes Academy continued charging in the third period, and the score was all tied at 27 going into the fourth quarter.
Then, Chambers Academy came out on fire. The Lady Rebels went on a 9-0 run in the first 3:30 of the fourth quarter to take a 36-27 lead. Lowndes eventually fought back, but it was too late to come back from the deficit.
MaKenzie Gilliland and Olivia Daughtrey led the way for Chambers Academy with 13 points apiece. Daughtrey has served as the most stable part of the Rebels’ offense through the early parts of the season. Gilliland is one of the leaders of the team, and her return from suspension gives the team a big boost on both sides.
Madison Stanford followed Gilliland and Daughtrey with eight points. Stanford scored six of her points in the fourth period. Lizzie McManus finished the game with six points.
The Lady Rebels have the rest of the week off as their next matchup is against Hooper Academy on Dec. 28.
