LaFayette’s winning streak came to an end on Tuesday as the Bulldogs fell to the Handley Tigers at home 51-39. 

Handley came out of the gates and stunned LaFayette early. The Tigers started the game on a 12-2 run that lasted four minutes. The Bulldogs cut into the lead late in the first period and Handley held a 12-6 lead going into the second period.
The Tigers continued to push the tempo early on and the team pushed its lead to 24-14 going into the half. 

Turnovers and shot selection were an issue for the Bulldogs in the first half as the usually stout offense found itself stifled. 

The Tigers were able to hold onto the momentum after halftime and pushed the lead to 14 going into the fourth period. 

LaFayette made a late run in the final period, even cutting the lead to just eight at one point, but ultimately it was too little too late. 

Cordan Patterson and Daquavian Slaughter were a dynamic duo for Handley. The two helped the Tigers to get out in fastbreak at every opportunity. Patterson was the leading scorer for Handley with 20 points in the game. Slaughter followed Patterson with 10 points. 

Tae Story was the leading scorer for LaFayette with 16 points. Story came up in big moments in the second half and never flinched. Story connected on seven of his eight free throw attempts in the second half and 12 of his points were scored in the final two periods. 

Deaundra Vines followed Story with seven points at point guard. Jordan Johnson came off the bench and finished the game with six points. Branaviyun Story finished the game with five points. 

LaFayette struggled from the charity stripe to start the game, missing its first three attempts. Later on, free throws became a strength for the Bulldogs. LaFayette connected on 10 of its 15 attempts from the charity stripe in the game. 

Three-point shooting was one of the thorns in the Bulldogs’ side on Tuesday. The team connected on just three of its 17 attempts from behind the arc. 

The loss to Handley ends a five-game winning streak for LaFayette. The Bulldogs currently sit at 6-3 with their next game being at a tournament on Dec. 21.
