Springwood’s hot streak came to an end on Monday as the Wildcats fell to Lithia Springs 59-44 in the LaGrange Toyota Classic.
Springwood struggled in the halfcourt offense all game, and the team struggled at times to convert on fastbreak opportunities.
Turnovers on shot selection ended up being the Achilles heel for the Wildcats. Springwood finished with 14 turnovers in the game.
Early on the three-point shot was falling, but the Wildcats went completely cold from behind the arc in the second half. Springwood started the game connecting five of its 10 three-pointers, and the team finished just five of 16 from behind the arc.
Lithia Springs took an early two-point lead out of the first period and just continued to build on the lead from there.
The Wildcats trailed by six heading into the fourth period, but the Lions outscored Springwood 17-8 to close the game out.
Micah Thomas led the way for Springwood with 18 points, five steals, three rebounds and one block. CJ Johnson followed Thomas with 11 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Panos Pananis played some big minutes for the Wildcats, finishing with 10 points, three steals and one rebound. Pananis hit two threes in the first period.
The loss on Monday dropped Springwood’s record to 11-2 on the season, and it ended a nine-game winning streak.
Next up for the Wildcats is a matchup against Mcintosh on the second day of the LaGrange Toyota Classic.
