East Alabama Fire District (EAFD) responded to a house fire in the Riverview community in Valley early Tuesday morning. EAFD along with Huguley Fire arrived at the residence on Lower Street around 12:45 a.m. ET to find the majority of the home engulfed in flames, EAFD Chief Jacob Geiger said.
The neighbors had reported the house vacant for some time, Geiger recalled. There were no reported injuries on the scene.
At the time of the fire, Chambers County was under a wind advisory and severe storm warning.
“We were working against the wind. When you have, you know, 30-40 mile per hour winds plus fire, it doesn’t help you. We had some obstacles working against us for sure,” Geiger said.
A defensive fire attack was initiated, meaning the firefighters were unable to do an interior attack due to the conditions, and they worked from the outside. Five apparatuses, between EAFD and Huguley Fire, were on the scene and were able to extinguish the fire. The house had severe fire damage, according to a press release from EAFD.
The fire’s cause is still under investigation by EAFD and the Valley Police Department.
