Say ‘thanks’ to dad this weekend

Every year, Father’s Day gets placed on the backburner of American holidays.
There are various reasons why this is the case. Some people deal with the pain of not having their biological father in their lives, and some people don’t have the best relationship with the father they do have.
In a number of cases, however, people don’t truly value the holiday for what it is. The biological father being present in someone’s life should never be taken for granted.
If there’s an adult male figure in your life, that figure needs to be celebrated and recognized. An uncle, older brother, cousin, stepfather, pastor, teacher, mentor or even barber can all be recognized as positive male figures in a person’s life. While that figure is still here to contact, please reach out and let them know that they are appreciated.
Every Mother’s Day, women are showered with gifts and messages of appreciation, as they should be. Many people gravitate more toward the mothering figure in their lives, perhaps for the affection and warmth they brought to them as young children. From that young age in life the male figure is, sometimes, undervalued. The stereotypical “dad gifts” for the holiday are a pack of boxers, a tie, or socks, while a hug might be thrown in on a good year. The value of a father soars beyond that.
This Sunday, make sure that you let the male figure in your life know that you appreciate them.
