Houston runs for 232 in LaFayette’s 33-19 win

LaFAYETTE — Senior running back Robert Houston rushed 23 times for 232 yards and two scores to lead the No. 6-ranked LaFayette High Bulldogs (9-2) to a 33-19 win over Cleveland High in AHSAA 2A first-round state playoff action here Friday evening at Bulldogs Stadium.
Houston had a long run of 80 yards as well. Quarterback Jaelin McCurdy completed 5-of-11 passes for 83 yards, including two scoring strikes to JaMarquez Boston Gaines.
Jordan Walker had the biggest play of the game aa the youngster recorded a 97-yard pick 6 for a potential 14-point swing.
Coach James Lucas’ team held a 6-0 lead over Cleveland at the end of the first and tallied a pair of scores in the second to hold a 20-0 halftime lead.
The Bulldogs scored 13 points in the third quarter while Cleveland added 12 as LaFayette held a 33-12 lead.
Cleveland scored one more time in the fourth for the 33-19 final score.
Senior Omar Boston had a sensational game with 21 tackles to lead the Bulldogs stop troops. Yogi Barker added 14, while Lajareon Bryant and Trevor Vines both had 13.
The Bulldogs defense recorded five sacks and has 42 sacks on the season.
Once again it was a nice combination of ball control on offense with Houston leading a potent rushing attack and aggressive team defensive play in controlling the game and earning the win.
•LaFayette will head on the road next week at No-1-ranked Fyffe in second-round playoff action Friday.
