The Lady Rebels stayed undefeated on Thursday in thrilling fashion as Chambers Academy defeated Calvary (GA) on a walk-off.
The Rebels came into the bottom of the seventh inning with a three-run lead. Then, Calvary started a two-out rally and tied the game at 11. Sometimes putting the ball in play is all it takes. Gabby Coleman did just that as she hit a ground ball that resulted in an error by Calvary and allowed Allie Paschal to score the winning run.
The game on Thursday was a testament to the fight that Chambers Academy could have this season. Early on, the Lady Knights came out firing on all cylinders as the Lady Knights scored five runs in the top of the first inning.
The Rebels chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the first inning as Paschal drove in MaKenzie Gilliland with a single. Chambers Academy added another run in the inning as Makayla Foster drove Pashal in with a single.
Foster’s bat stayed hot as she hit a three-run home run over the centerfield wall to tie the game at five in the bottom of the third inning.
The Lady Knights took the lead back in the top of the fourth inning as an error scored a run. Then, Calvary showed some power in the top of the fifth inning as the Lady Knights took a 7-5 lead on a two-run home run.
The Rebels quickly punched back in the bottom of the fifth inning as Olivia Daughtrey tied the game at seven with a two-run double.
The Lady Knights regained the lead on a wild pitch before Chambers Academy exploded for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The first of those runs came on an error that scored Gilliland. Then, Daughtrey continued her dominant night as she drove in three with a triple to give Chambers Academy an 11-8 lead.
Daughtrey had a big night for the Rebels as she went 2-for-4 with five RBIs. Foster was just as good at the plate, going 2-for-2 with four RBIs and two walks. Gilliland added another punch to Chambers Academy’s lineup, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Foster got the start on the mound for Chambers Academy and pitched all seven innings. Foster gave up 11 runs, with only five being earned, six walks, 13 hits and struck out five batters.
The thrilling win on Thursday pushed Chambers Academy’s record to 2-0 on the season. The Lady Rebels’ offense has been the story early on as they’ve scored 32 runs in two games.
