The Troup Tigers have now rattled off five wins in a row after a 5-3 victory over Valley (AL) on Monday. 

The Tigers broke through early, taking a 1-0 lead in the second when an error allowed Ethan Goff to score. 

It would not be long before Troup added to its lead with a pair of runs in the third inning. Chase Mosley hit a sacrifice bunt to drive in the first run of the inning and Carson Walker blasted a Triple to drive in the second.  

These were the first runs given up by Auburn commit Jackson Sanders this season.

The Rams got two runs back in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to just one run. Mason Yarborough drove in both with a single.  

Tripp Cummings came into the game on the mound and limited the damage, preserving Troup’s lead in the process. Cummings pitched a strong 1 ⅔ innings in relief, allowing just one hit.

Valley eventually tied the game with a solo homer run from Sanders in the top of the sixth.

The Tigers answered right back when Davis Moncus hit a solo home run of his own to lead off the bottom of the sixth. Garrison Edwards drove in the final run of the game with a single.

It was a big evening for Edwards, who was 3-for-4 with an RBI and one run scored. 

Walker, Moncus, Torreion Delaney and Brady Willis all had a hit each for the Troup offense.  

Walker got the start on the mound and pitched 3 and ⅓ innings before making way for Cummings. 

Moncus’ evening was punctuated by his home run, but also put in a quality shift on the mound, pitching the final two innings, striking out four and allowing just one hit to earn the win.

This served as sweet revenge for Troup, who lost on a late run in the bottom of the sixth inning in the first encounter between these two teams this season. 

Troup is now 7-5 on the season and is peaking with region play set to start on Tuesday with a trip to Whitewater.
