Chambers Academy had a big night on Tuesday as the Rebels had an electric outing at the plate in a 17-0 win over Southern Christian.
It was clear early on that Chambers Academy was a few notches better than the adversary. After the first three batters walked in the bottom of the first inning, Drew Sheppard cleared the bases with a deep drive over the left field fence to give Chambers Academy a 4-0 lead with no outs.
The Rebels found themselves with bases loaded again later in the inning, and Eli Pritchard took a five-pitch walk to give Chambers Academy a five-run lead. Landon Hand then hit a line drive into right field to drive in another run.
The inning just continued to snowball for the Patriots as Kyle Hand was hit by a pitch and Payton Yerta was walked to give the Rebels an 8-0, still with no outs.
Sheppard continued as he hit a single into center field, and two runners were able to score on an error. Luke Tarver then drove in a run with a ground out.
Chambers Academy did not need it, but the Rebels were able to produce a two-out rally in the inning as Sam Smith drove in a run with a single. Pritchard then added another RBI to his tally with a single. Landon drove in a run on a single before the final run was scored on a bases-loaded walk.
When all was said and done, Southern Christian stared at a 15-0 deficit after just one inning of action. Chambers Academy added one final blow in the bottom of the second inning as Phillip Belcher hit a two-RBI double. The game was ended in the top of the third inning by the mercy rule.
Sheppard had a huge night for the Rebels as he was stellar on the mound and at the plate. On the mound, Sheppard allowed no hits, no runs, three walks and struck out five batters in three innings of work.
Sheppard went 2-for-3 at the plate with five RBIs and one home run. Pritchard also had a big night at the plate as he went 1-for-1 with two RBIs and a walk.
Chambers Academy has now won two straight, and the Rebels currently sit with a 6-4 record on the season. Chambers Academy will be back in action on Thursday as the Rebels travel to face Evangel Christian.
