LANETT — Mr. David Leonard Sides Sr. of Lanett, Alabama, passed away on Monday, June 18th at his home, surrounded by his daughters Kathy and Becky, and his caregiver and friend, Dean Carr.

It was his final wish to be reunited with his wife of 68 years, Mary Helen Sides, and his son, David L Sides, II. Though we are heartbroken that he has left us, we are rejoicing knowing that he is with his Lord and Savior, and those he missed so much.

Our father was a hard-working man that never wanted to be indoors except for the time he lovingly spent taking care of our mother for the 35 years she was ill. He spent evenings plowing gardens for others after he left his job as a crane operator and heavy equipment operator, restoring John Deere tractors, and working in his garden and shop. He was a friend to all and loved to laugh whether it was the pranks he played on others or playing games and singing to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved his dog Jake and spent many of his days playing with him and riding him around West Point Lake.

He is survived by his daughters, Kathy (Bruce) Maynard and Rebecca (John) Looser; grandchildren, Michael (Wendy) Sides, Kelli (Marty) Adams, Donavan (Paige) Carroll, Amber (Kevin) Morris, Mark (Anna) Robinson, II, and Jason(Constance) Robinson, Kimberly (James) Cochrane;  great-grandchildren, Jake Sides, Morgan Sides, Shane Bryant, Brenden Bryant, Baylee Bryant, Savannah Bryant, Ashley Adams, Charles Adams, Logan Adams Logan Carroll, Danelle Carroll, Caylee Carroll, Carolyne Carroll, Randall Irvin, Dixie Morris, Autumn Morris, D.J. Teel Morris, Jay Robinson, Madison Robinson, Mark Robinson, III, Kobe Cochrane, Kaden Cochrane, and Haven Maynard; great-great grandchildren, Braxton Stone, Hayden Adams and Terry Adams.

Mr. Sides is also survived by his sister; Carilena Sides Sims; sister- in- law, Lala Sides; and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary H. Sides, his son, David L. (Bim) Sides, II, grandson, Shawn Maynard, and great grandson, David L. Carroll, his parents, James Grady Sides and Lena Breedlove Sides, sister, Frances Mason, and brothers, Douglas Sides and Bobby Sides.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 20th, from 6 p.m. EDT to 8 p.m. EDT at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.   Funeral services will be Thursday, June 21st, at 11 a.m. EDT at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel. Military Honors Service for his proud service as a U.S. Marine serving in the Korean war, and burial will be at 12:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Valley, AL.

Our heartfelt thanks to friend and caregiver Dean Carr for the 12 ½ years of taking care of our mother and father, and Chattahoochee Hospice for their guidance and care.
