The latest High school basketball season is a thing of the past, but with so many great athletes in the area, now is a good time to release the All-Valley boys basketball team for the 2023-24 season. 

This year, the All-Valley boys basketball team will consist of five players and there will be three teams. All of these players are some of the best in the area and in the state and are well deserving of recognition. 

 

1st Team: Cam Dooley, Brandon Thomas, Vaderrian Story, Micah Thomas and Deaundra Vines

 

Valley stars Cam Dooley and Brandon Thomas put together phenomenal seasons for the Valley Rams as the team made its second straight appearance in the final four. Dooley led the way for the Rams. Dooley averaged 23 points, 10 rebounds and nearly four assists for the Rams and is a finalist for 5A Player of the Year. 

Thomas was Valley’s enforcer on the inside, averaging 18 points, 11 rebounds and nearly four assists for the Rams. Vaderrian Story was dominant in his own right as he led LaFayette to the 2A semifinals. 

Story averaged 19 points, nearly 7 rebounds and just under four assists for the Bulldogs and is a finalist for 2A player of the year.
Micah Thomas led the Springwood Wildcats at point guard and averaged 17 points, four rebounds and four assists per game. Thomas was named second-team All-State in the AISA. 

Deaundra Vines was the engine that made LaFayette go this season. Vines averaged 17 points, nearly six rebounds and seven assists per game. 

 

2nd Team: Daniel Westbrook, Cam Baker, Demarion Foreman, Grey Hayley and Nakia Bynum 

 

Daniel Westbrook was one of Springwood’s leaders as a senior last season. Westbrook averaged 17 points, nine rebounds and nearly three assists for the Wildcats. Westbrook was one of the more prolific scorers in the area this season, his stats on a stacked Springwood team shows how dynamic of an athlete he was. 

Cam Baker was just in his sophomore season for the Wildcats, but that did not stop him from being one of the most dynamic guards in the area. Baker averaged just under 15 points, three rebounds and three assists last season. Baker helped lead the Bobcats to the 3A-Area 8 championship. 

Junior Demarion Foreman put together a stellar season for the Bobcats, averaging 14 points, 4.5 assists and three rebounds on the season. Foreman and Baker led Beulah’s backcourt and should make the team exciting to watch next season. 

Grey Hayley makes the second team as the leader of Chambers Academy’s basketball team last season. Hayley averaged 17 points and six rebounds per game and finished with 38 points against Oaks. 

Senior Nakia Bynum led Lanett last season with 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists per game. The Panthers finished second in their area after losing to LaFayette in the area championship. 

 

3rd Team: Jay Harper, CJ Johnson, Jeremiah McGillberry, Branaviyun Story, LJ Fitzpatrick

 

It seems odd to say, but Jay Harper might have been the most underrated basketball player in the area last season. A large part of that is due to the talent that Valley had last season, but Harper still averaged just under 13 points, 5.5 rebounds and five assists for the Rams at guard. 

CJ Johnson was a newcomer to Springwood and made a major impact last season. Johnson averaged 12 points, four rebounds and two assists on the season. 

Jeremiah McGillberry was Lanett’s enforcer on the inside. The sophomore averaged nine points, 10 rebounds and one assist per game for the Panthers. 

Branaviyun Story was one of the more dominant big men in the area this season. Story averaged 13 points, 10 rebounds and just under two assists for LaFayette. 

LJ Fitzpatrick put together a strong senior season for the Beulah Bobcats. Fitzpatrick averaged just under 11 points, 5.5 rebounds and three assists last season.
