Dozens of children gave chase across the Point University soccer field in search of the golden egg hidden among 400 plastic eggs on Wednesday. 

A crowd of West Point families hopped over to the second annual Easter “Eggstravaganza” to enjoy bounce houses, cotton candy, sack races and face painting. 

The event hosted by Point University Student Life was open to the whole community. New Dimensions Worship Center Bishop Donald Lancaster also helped organize the event. From 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Point University students, staff and faculty volunteered to help with the egg hunt. 

There were three egg hunts of the day for three age groups: third through fifth grade, sixth through eighth grade and ninth through tenth grade. Over 400 eggs were hidden around the field for each group. 

This is the second year that Point University has hosted the event. Lancaster said they hope to see more children and families continue to participate in the years to come. 

Point University held an easter basket giveaway in 2022. Last year, Associate Dean of Students Illya Lawrence introduced the Easter Eggstravaganza, inspired by a similar event from his hometown.

For only the second time, Lancaster said the turnout was great. He hopes to continue the “Eggstravaganza” as an annual event. The event is a part of Point University’s Impact Day, a day reserved for students, faculty and staff to volunteer a service to the community.

“It gives us as Point University an opportunity to come out and give back to the community,” Lancaster said. “Staff, student-athletes, family, everybody coming out and volunteering their time to make sure that the kids and the families of this area is having a good day.”

Lancaster estimated that about 150 to 200 Point students and student-athletes came out to volunteer for the event. Students from Point’s baseball, volleyball, soccer and football teams came out to help make the event special.
